SHOULDER SURGERY

SHOULDER SURGERY

The shoulder is nature's ideal creation so that we can carry out highly specific movements with the arm.

Our understanding is to preserve this gift of nature!

When healthy, the shoulder joint is the most mobile joint in our body.

Muscles, tendons and bursa interact harmoniously with each other, allowing movement in almost all directions. The bones, the joint capsule and numerous ligaments ensure stability.

This balance is responsible for our ability to reach behind our backs, take a glass from a high shelf and carry out the most complex tasks with our arms.

Sometimes in life a shoulder problem occurs, for example after an accident, or just like that - spontaneously, without notice.

When ill, the balance between the structures is disturbed. Even small changes in the joint structure have a major impact on the functionality of the shoulder. Mobility often suffers first, whereas pain usually manifests itself a little later.

Of course, it is always better to prevent than to have to cure later. It may therefore make sense, for example, to have a detailed sports orthopedic check-up or performance diagnostics to see whether a particular sport could lead to problems in your shoulder that may require surgery at a later date.

But what can you do if you already have pain or problems with your shoulder?

Have you sustained an injury to your shoulder while playing sports? Then you should first be examined by a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery who specializes in the treatment of shoulder pain and shoulder problems.

Ideal if there is such a shoulder specialist in Munich near you. Prof. Ockert will find out the cause of your symptoms and explain the various treatment options to you.

In many cases, conservative therapy is sufficient, but there are special features. Conservative therapy methods are often referred to the general orthopedist.

At SCHULTER OCKERT we also carry out conservative treatment on the shoulder at your request. Sometimes surgical treatment of your shoulder is necessary in a clinic in Munich. We cooperate with excellent clinics in Munich such as the LMU Klinikum and the Josephinum Clinic.

Symptoms of the shoulder

There are a variety of medical conditions that may require treatment in a clinic and shoulder surgery by a specialist in Munich:

One of the most common shoulder diseases is impingement syndrome, also known as bottleneck syndrome, which is caused by a pinching of the anatomical structures between the acromion and the head of the humerus.

Another common clinical picture is calcified shoulder, where there are calcium deposits in the tendons of the rotator cuff. For frozen shoulder, which occurs due to thickening and shrinkage of the joint capsule, conservative treatment options can improve mobility.

In the event of shoulder instability or dislocation of the shoulder, which can occur, for example, in a sports accident, it is important to quickly clarify the pathology in order to avoid long-term damage. If the shoulder joint capsule is congenitally hyperextensible, modern forms of therapy can provide relief from the symptoms.

Here you will find an overview of the most common shoulder diseases. If a problem sounds familiar to you, or if your shoulder needs to undergo shoulder surgery in Munich in an emergency, contact the right address and the right specialist with the appropriate expertise in this field.

When choosing a specialist, pay attention to whether he or she is a shoulder specialist. This is particularly the case if he has many years of experience in this area and his surgical spectrum focuses on the entire treatment of the shoulder.

FAQ about shoulder surgery

Is general anesthesia necessary for shoulder surgery?

Many shoulder procedures can be performed gently and comfortably under what is known as twilight sleep. This involves administering medication intravenously. During the procedure, the anesthesiologist continuously monitors circulatory parameters. General anesthesia is necessary, for example, if the operation is performed in a specific position or if the procedure requires a longer duration.

How is pain controlled during shoulder surgery?

For many shoulder procedures, the arm nerves are briefly anesthetized. Your perception of pain can be temporarily blocked with an injection or a pain catheter. One advantage of a pain catheter is that the overall dose of pain medication can be specifically reduced during and after the procedure.
